Ha raggiunto la celebrità per le sue performance in commedie come Ace Ventura - L'acchiappanimali, The Mask - Da zero a mito, Scemo & più scemo, Batman Forever, Ace Ventura - Missione Africa, Il rompiscatole, Bugiardo bugiardo, Il Grinch, Una settimana da Dio e Sonic - Il film.

È stato tuttavia molto apprezzato anche per performance più drammatiche come in The Truman Show, Man on the Moon, Se mi lasci ti cancello, Number 23 e A Christmas Carol.
